Right To Work in Action

It's not strange that when government employees are not required to join government unions, their memberships decline. The perfect example is in Wisconsin. Recall that Governor Scott Walker implemented several changes into the state's laws regarding unions. There the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) union membership declined after the new law gave people a choice to join or not. AFSCME membership went from 31,730 to only 20,488 last year after the new law no longer required forced membership.

These declines in government union memberships are also occurring across the whole state of Wisconsin. People are waking up to the fact that unions are NOT doing anyone any good any longer. This statement comes from an ex-union VP of a teacher's local. Our experience showed that we had to defend real deadbeats who should have been fired for their actions, just because they were in the union.

Is it any surprise that when given a choice to join or not - that large numbers of people elect NOT to pay union dues or become members? All states should allow freedom of choice and not force people into submission - including all teacher's unions.
