The Earthquake Was a Warning for All
Fortunately for most Americans, we suffered no building damage or personal injury from the 5.9 earthquake located in Virginia. However, it serves as a warning for all of us to realize that Americans are NOT prepared for a serious event causing bodily injury and massive property damage. Our systems will be quickly overloaded and communications will be hit first. Public transportation and hospitals will be next. Are you prepared? Do you have a plan for survival or are you one of those who will count on the government to bail you out? (The latter, will probably end up dead, like many did in Katrina). You need to have an emergency plan!
What It Showed
Most Americans do not have a plan for survival. In fact, they've never considered one because they never thought (or think) that this can happen to them. WRONG! Hell, schools and offices alike have practice fire drills on a regular basis. When is the last time you held your own practice "fire drill" in your home? Do you and your family know where to go in an emergency? Do they know what to bring if they have to leave the house or office? Do you have a bug-out-bag at home and at the office for just an occasion? Do you even know what a bug-out-bag is? Why not? What will you do with your pets? Bring them or leave them? You need to make these decisions now so you won't waste any time during the emergency. Will you stay calm or panic? If you have a plan - it will be easier to stay calm and to help others as needed.
Get Ready
There are many books and information on the Internet about survival. This blog will not endorse any particular source. You need to get busy and find these resources so you can develop you own personal emergency survival plan. You should also prepare and have enough food with you for a minimum of THREE days per person! Talk to other people and find-out if they have a plan. If so, ask them what they have done. Don't just learn - do! Become an active planner and get your survival materials ready at hand. Include things to be able to help others if possible. Train your family and friends on what to do, where to go, and how to get there.
Better to be over-ready than part of the problem!
