Brokered Conventions

What is a Brokered Convention?
There are a total of 2,286 delegates in all. The winning candidate must reach 1,144 delegates in order to become the GOP candidate for the Presidency. A brokered convention takes place when none of the GOP candidates receive 1,144 of the delegates to win the nomination. The last time the Republicans had a brokered convention was back in 1976, when Gerald Ford was running along with Ronald Reagan.

The main reason why we may see another brokered convention this year is because the majority of GOP voters are NOT happy with the current field of candidates. In fact, many voters are strongly expressing that they WANT a BROKERED CONVENTION so they can have more choices. Voters this time around want a CONSERVATIVE candidate and won't settle for the crappy candidates we have now. In other words, we don't want another Progressive Republican like John McCain again! McCain is NOT a Conservative!

"Political Horse Trading"
There are two rounds of voting at the convention. When no candidate wins the majority of 1,144 delegates in the first round of voting, the convention becomes Political Horse Trading convention. All delegates pledged to each respective candidate in the first round of voting are released to vote for whomever they want in the second round of voting. This introduces totally new candidates into the race.

Lost Delegates
There are five states this year who actually lost some delegates because they changed their voting dates. These states were as follows:

  • Arizona went from 58 delegates down to 29

  • Florida from 99 to 50

  • Michigan from 59 to 30

  • New Hampshire from 23 to 12

  • South Carolina from 50 to 25

These five states lost delegates solely because they moved-up their primary election dates in order to become more competitive in the primary season.

Forms of Delegates
There are two forms of delegates in the process: Nonbinding and binding. A non-binding delegate can vote for whomever they choose. The binding delegate has to vote for whoever won its states primary election or states caucus.

Types of Delegates
There are three types of delegates as follows:
  • RNC delegate

  • At Large delegate

  • Congressional District delegate

Current Count
Here are the latest counts of delegates won by the four respective candidates from high to low;

  • Romney - 103

  • Santorum - 43

  • Gingrich - 42

  • Paul - 37

One More Thing
The RNC may still change the rules as to how these delegates can be counted. Go Figure. That's making up the rules as we go along. The GOP Establishment will try and help their favorite candidate (Mitt Romney). You can be sure of that.

THIS IS THE MAIN REASON WHY WE NEED A BROKERED CONVENTION!! The GOP keeps playing games with us so they can retain their political powers in Washington. SCREW THEM!

Action To Take
Don't vote for the GOP Establishment favorite (Romney). Tell them we want a Brokered Convention instead!
