The Newtown Killings

"What's different about about the Newtown Massacre? Not very much. On top of the Columbine tragedy, the Batman "homage" and so on and so on, it still doesn't even have its own Twitter hashtag. I haven't had the heart to look for any theme music that has been drummed up for cable news.

Of course there are already countless reports among innumerable op-ed contributors. I can't even use that angle. Nor can I exploit my use of the word "angle." Nor am I much interested in "thinkers" from the world's pundits and pulpits about what this means, if anything, about American society as a whole. I have no doubt, of course, there have been media roundups on how Fox News has covered the story.

It goes without saying that the suspected shootings "rehearsed a familiar scenario." I haven't yet read that that any big weekend TV shows have yet been dropped by networks. The Sunday morning TV news talk shows haven't yet assembled their expert "panels" about about the deaths of 26 innocent murdered people, 20 of them in grade school. Were "grief counselors" called in to speak with the families?

Is this a heartless cynical way to approach Newtown? No doubt it is. In my opinion the most useful way to "analyze" is to repeat. I would like to quote the following words from an article by me that was excerpted under another byline, as follows:

"From his review of Gus Van Sant's 'Elephant', a fictionalized account of a Columbine-like school shooting, here's Roger Ebert on the media's behavior while reporting these kinds of events:

"Let me tell you a story. The day after Columbine, I was interviewed for the Tom Brokaw news program. The reporter had been assigned a theory and was seeking sound bites to support it. "Wouldn't you say," she asked, "that killings like this are influenced by violent movies?" No, I said, I wouldn't say that. "But what about 'Basketball Diaries'?" she asked. "Doesn't that have a scene of a boy walking into a school with a machine gun?"

"The obscure 1995 Leonardo Di Caprio movie did indeed have a brief fantasy scene of that nature, I said, but the movie failed at the box office (it grossed only $2.5 million), and it's unlikely the Columbine killers saw it.

"The reporter looked disappointed, so I offered her my theory. "Events like this," I said, "if they are influenced by anything, are influenced by news programs like your own. When an unbalanced kid walks into a school and starts shooting, it becomes a major media event. Cable news drops ordinary programming and goes around the clock with it. The story is assigned a logo and a theme song; these two kids were packaged as the Trench Coat Mafia. The message is clear to other disturbed kids around the country: If I shoot up my school, I can be famous. The TV will talk about nothing else but me. Experts will try to figure out what I was thinking. The kids and teachers at school will see they shouldn't have messed with me. I'll go out in a blaze of glory."

"In short, I said, events like Columbine are influenced far less by violent movies than by CNN, the NBC Nightly News and all the other news media, who glorify the killers in the guise of "explaining" them.

"I commended the policy at the Sun-Times, where our editor said the paper would no longer feature school killings on Page 1. The reporter thanked me and turned off the camera. Of course the interview was never used. They found plenty of talking heads to condemn violent movies, and everybody was happy."

This is Ebert again. I gather my point is what goes around, comes around."

Here They Come

Gun Rights Being Attacked
Leading the latest charge to confiscate and ban guns in the USA is none other than our own Attorney General Eric Holder. It's truly ironic that he has said that "WE HAVE TO ASK OURSELVES SOME HARD QUESTIONS’ ABOUT GUN RIGHTS AFTER CONN. SHOOTINGS."

Why is that ironic you say? Have you forgot that this is the same guy who perjured himself in front of Congress (under oath) when he LIED about "Fast and Furious." He was cited by Congress for Contempt of Congress. The chief law enforcement officer of the nation is a LIAR! Fast and Furious was the government sponsored program that allowed Mexican Drug Cartels to purchase weapons here in the US so they could illegally transport them to Mexico and use them there. Holder condoned that program and Obama protected him!

Holder now wants to ban guns! THAT'S just incredible!

Out Of The Woodwork
The massacre that killed 27 people on Friday doesn't stop gun banners from blowing their horn. It brings them out in greater numbers. The victims haven't been buried yet and the Anti-Gunners are busy calling for Banning guns. They have NO RESPECT for the families and victims.

Look who these people are. They are Secular Progressives. These are the same people who have been chipping away on YOUR liberties since 1913! They know that less guns doesn't equate to fewer murders. They just want MORE CONTROL over YOUR lives. The Founders wanted citizens to have guns to protect themselves from an overbearing government. Many government Progressives have personal body guards who are armed for their protection. These people don't want YOU to have ANY personal protection because that gives them control to tell you what to do.

The REAL Objective
This isn't just about banning firearms or safety. It's about controlling you and manipulating the masses. It's about the destruction of YOUR liberties. Don't be fooled. If they ban guns, crime will get worse because ONLY criminals will have guns. The perfect example is the United Kingdom (UK). Since they banned guns in the UK, crime has increased tremendously. What's worse, is that the government will have it easier to "regulate" your behavior. They will have no fear of uprisings when their citizens have no guns.

Doomsday/Mayan Prediction

Regardless
Some people believe that 12/21/2012 is the end of the world. Others believe that it is a day of some catastrophic event because of the end of the Mayan calendar. If it is the end, there's not much you can or should do. However, if there is some disaster in the near future, shouldn't you and your family be ready to face it head-on?

10 Things
Many articles have been written on stockpiling. Here is one of the more common checklists of things to have on hand for emergencies:

1. Water and Non-Perishable Food - You should have 1 gallon of water/person/day. You should also have some sort of water filter system available, in case the municipal supply is contaminated. Canned goods can be eaten without cooking. Also have dry goods in case cooking is not a problem.
2. Flashlights and Batteries - Use common size batteries, like AA, instead of batteries that are hard to find. 
3. Candles, Matches, and Lighters - A small flame can light up an entire room and large ones provide a couple of hours of light for weeks. Keep your matches in a waterproof container.
4. Clothes and Blankets - Keep clothes in a dry sack or bag. Give priority to wool because it keep you warm even in damp conditions. Suggestions: wool hat, wool socks, wool sweater, a pair of pants, a neck gaiter, underwear, gloves, and a jacket with a hood.
5. Portable Stove or Camp Stove - Propane stoves or liquid-fuel stoves work best. Make yourself a Rocket Stove (YouTube it).
6. Alternate Heat - Have a backup in case your primary heat source goes out. A fireplace, wood stove, or kerosene or propane space heater are good examples. Don't forget the fuel.
7. Liquor, Coffee, and Cigarettes - These things make excellent barter items. Alcohol can also be used as a disinfectant.
8. Guns and Ammunition - A .22 rifle, or a 12 gauge shotgun are good choices. Be sure you have plenty of ammo.
9. Medical Kit - Medical kits should include first aid basics, plus a supply of regular medications you take. 
10. Tools - Hammer, axe, screwdrivers, a knife, multitool, tape and glue, rope and twine, and a pry bar. 

Why Do This?
Remember Hurrincane Katrina? Hurrincane Sandy? That should be enough to get you moving! Does this make you a Prepper? You bet! Does this make you crazy? Nope!

"Why Are Doomsday Preppers Hated So Much?

Have you noticed that it has become trendy to bash preppers?  For a long time the prepper movement was ignored, but now it has become so large that it is getting very difficult for the mainstream media to pretend that it is not there.  In fact, it has been estimated that there are now approximately 3 million preppersin the United States alone.  So now the mainstream media has decided that mocking the movement is the best strategy, and lots of “critics” and “skeptics” out there have picked up on this trend.  Instead of addressing the very real issues that have caused millions of Americans to prepare for the worst, those criticizing the prepper movement attempt to put the focus on individual personalities.  They try to find the strangest nutjobs they possibly can and then hold them up as “typical preppers”.  The goal is to portray preppers as tinfoil hat wearing freaks that need to be locked up in the loony bin for their own personal safety and for the good of society.  The criticism of preppers has really ramped up in recent months, and it will likely get even worse in 2013.  The establishment does not like any movement that is outside of their control, and the prepper movement is definitely not under their control.

Often, hit pieces on the prepper movement are disguised as articles or shows that are supposed to be “balanced” looks at the movement.  This is especially true of shows such as “Doomsday Preppers“.  That show is the highest rated show that the National Geographic channel has ever had, and it can be a lot of fun to watch.  But if you notice carefully, they almost always try to feature people that they consider to be “freaks” or that are “on the fringe of society”.  Many other “reality shows” follow the exact same recipe.  The goal is to draw high ratings by running a “freak show” that people can’t help but watch.

Even if you go on such a show and try to do your best to explain your prepping in a rational and coherent manner, they will still edit the footage so that it makes you look like a freak.  It really is a no-win proposition.  These shows are trying to make it clear that preppers should be mocked.  The underlying implication is that these people are crazy and that what they are doing is stupid.

And at the end of each segment, the producers of the show are careful to include reasons why the prepper that was just featured is being irrational and why the things they are preparing for are extremely unlikely to happen.  Just in case you missed the message they have been trying to communicate the entire time, they come right out and tell you the conclusion that you are supposed to come to.

And of course we see the same attitudes reflected in reviews of the show.  For example, the following is from a recent Los Angeles Times review of the new season of Doomsday Preppers…"

QE 4 means "Quantative Easing part 4." This is the invention of Ben Bernanke, the Federal Reserve Chairman. Bernanke is deliberately devaluing YOUR dollars by printing money out of thin air. Unfortunately this is all quite legal. Thank both Congress and President Nixon.

Congress created the Federal Reserve Bank in 1913 which was supposed to protect our American dollar. However since its inception the dollar has decreased in value 96%. The net result is the insidious tax otherwise know as INFLATION. We don't even know who owns the Federal Reserve Bank. Perhaps George Soros has a piece of the action.

President Nixon in 1974 abolished the Gold Standard. This allowed Congress to establish a debt ceiling which lets them spend money they don't have and it allowed banks to use fiat currency without backing it up with gold. The next affect over time has been to devalue our currency and to allow the Federal Reserve to print money out of worthless paper. Our currency is NOT backed by anything!

Latest Easing
Now Ben Bernanke is launching another round of devaluing our currency. He's now printing $45 BILLION dollars a month and is buying US Treasuries with the valueless money. This act used to be against the law, but our Congress said that it was OK for the Treasury to sell bonds to the Fed. That's called "Monitizing" the debt. It's the best way to make American dollars worthless. You print money on worthless paper and then use it to buy bonds sold by the Treasury to help reduce our debt. The net affect is to debase our currency and cause increases in inflation.

Bernanke knows this and continues to perform this operation.

Action To Take
Demand that Congress put a stop to these destructive practices and FIRE Ben Bernanke!

You're Not Alone

Recent Poll
The Washington Post-ABC news poll reports that 54% of participants surveyed disapprove of Speaker Boehner's fiscal cliff negotiations. Only 24% approved of his negotiating. That sums-up our feeling too!

Why reward BAD BEHAVIOR over and over and over again? How long would you last at work if you received a poor performance rating over and over again? It's time to DUMP THE HEAD CHUMP in the House of Representatives and send him a strong message.

The times are a changing' and he'd better get on board or get thrown out of Congress all together.

Action To Take
Follow this link to fire Speaker Boehner. Don't procrastinate. Do it today. You HAVE the power to make a difference. Use it!

Make Believe

Kool Aid
Are you still drinking Kool Aid? Do you actually believe that John Boehner will NOT capitulate to President Obama?

Prediction
The Bush tax cuts will expire. Congress will not make any cuts in federal spending. Speaker Boehner will cave-in and there will be tax increases for more individuals than planned.

Pessimistic?
If this sounds negative, you're right. Look at the Congressional performance from the last time they faced making spending cuts. They couldn't do it so they created the "Super Committee." They are the ones who came up with the current disaster. They created the extreme cuts in military spending. They created the "fiscal cliff" scenario.

Reminder: Congress is supposed to create and follow an annual budget every year.

FACT: Our Senate has not met this performance requirement for the past four years. If they can't do a budget, what makes you think they can actually do anything serious about the deficit?

Do you still trust that they will look-out for your interests or the interests of this country? Hardly. Look at their record!  After all, they're just politicians. They lie and look you in the face, while they borrow and spend money they don't earn and give it to people who don't work, or blow it on bankrupt companies under the guise of Green Energy.

You or I could do a better job.
