Ethanol Production Bad for Food Production
Producing ethanol to "save the planet" is becoming a BAD policy. This is even recognized by "environmentalist" Al Gore recently. He stated "It is not a good policy to have these massive subsidies for (U.S.) first generation ethanol." He claims that the energy conservation ratios are very small. In other words, it's a BAD idea because producing ethanol for fuel is in direct competition for producing corn to eat.
The Basic Facts
Farmers and fuel producers receive more in Federal subsidies for production of ethanol than for raising corn for food. Consequently, the industry is moving in the wrong direction thanks to big government interference. Ethanol is made by extracting sugar from corn, which unto itself, is a huge and wasteful energy consuming process. This year in the United States the ethanol industry will consume just over 41% of the entire US corn crop! This equates to 15% of the global corn crop. We are reducing the world's corn supply by 15% so we can have ethanol to burn in our cars! NICE! Now the planet is more important than people!
So What's the Big Deal?
Why should we worry about the global food supply anyway? Just look at the local food prices and you will understand. There is a direct impact on what you will pay for your food locally. Corn is used in over 4,000 products that are available on your grocery shelves. Do you still think that it's a good idea to subsidize corn to make ethanol? It's a bad idea.
Action To Take
There are several lobbying groups who love the government subsidies for ethanol production. They are making a small fortune off of YOUR tax dollars. Tell Congress to HALT these subsidies for corn to ethanol. Besides your gas mileage is much worse with alcohol blended with you gasoline. Did you know that? It actually costs you more to drive the same distance!!
Tell environmental Nazis we'd rather we'd rather eat than ride...
