Good news: If you live in a small town, your chances are good that you won't see much from any terrorist activity. However, that doesn't rule you out completely.
The Bad news: If you live in a big city, you're screwed! Isn't that obvious?

Here is a map of the continental USA (minus AK) for the time period between 1970 and 2008 showing fatal attacks:
You can see that there wasn't much activity concerning fatal terrorist attacks.
Here is a map of the same area showing the concentrations of terrorist attacks (foiled or otherwise):

The Bottom Line
If you live in a big city, you should be prepared and much more alert when you are out and about. One third of these attacks occurred in five metropolitan areas, as follows:
- 156 attacks in Los Angeles County, CA
- 343 attacks in Manhattan, NY
- 103 attacks in Miami-Date County, FL
- 99 attacks in San Francisco, CA
- 79 attacks in Washington, DC
So, you should be aware that there are people out there who REALLY want to kill you here in the United States! You should be prepared for emergencies. You should have a plan on what to do if you are involved in an attack. Talk your plans over with your family so they are on the same page.
