Constitutional Amendment?

Tea Party Activists Push for Amendment
Tea Party activists are striving to get a constitutional convention in order to pass a new amendment. The idea is to limit Congressional powers by adding a new check in the checks and balances. The new amendment would give two thirds of the states the ability to repeal congressional acts like ObamaCare!

Purpose of the Change
This amendment would restore much of the state sovereignty that the Supreme Courts have (over time) taken away from the states. They have diluted the original purpose of the tenth Amendment which ensured states' rights. Over time the courts have expanded Federal powers and taken powers away from the individual states.

Other Ideas
In addition there is also discussion to repeal the 17th Amendment, passed by the Progressive movement in 1917. That's the one that established the Federal income tax. Since its inception, the Federal government has expanded it over and over to today's 70,000 plus pages of regulations.

Fears
Some feel that a constitutional convention would open up the whole Constitution for change. This is possible, however, once changed, it would require a two thirds majority of the states to ratify these changes. Since radical changes would NOT likely be accepted, it remains a good idea to consider.

Action To Take
If you like the idea you need to let your local Tea Party membership know it. Get their support to escalate the issue and make it happen.
