Here is the biography that the White House gives on their web site:

"Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett

Valerie B. Jarrett is a Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama. She is also the Chair of the White House Council on Women and Girls.

Prior to joining the Obama Administration, she was the Chief Executive Officer of The Habitat Company. She also served as Co-Chair of the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition Team, and Senior Advisor to Obama's presidential campaign.

Ms. Jarrett has held positions in both the public and private sector, including the Chairman of the Chicago Transit Board, the Commissioner of Planning and Development for the City of Chicago, and Deputy Chief of Staff for Mayor Richard M. Daley. She also practiced law with two private law firms.  

Jarrett also served as a director of corporate and not for profit boards, including Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Stock Exchange, Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and Chairman of the University of Chicago Medical Center Board of Trustees.

Jarrett received her B.A. from Stanford University in 1978 and her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1981."

What They Left Out
Unfortunately, the WH omitted some otherwise interesting facts about dear Valerie that most Americans do not know. Here are a few tid-bits to tickle you:

Valerie Jarrett used to be Michele Obama's boss before Barack became a US Senator. According to the book The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House Valerie "functions as the eyes, ears, and nose of the president and first lady. She tells them who’s saying what about who, who’s loyal and who’s not. She advises them about who they should see when they visit a city or a foreign country. She determines who gets invited to the White House and who is left out in the cold."

According to the book, Valerie is the one most responsible for the incompetence and amateurism as demonstrated from Obama's office.

A Few More Things...
Valerie Jarrett was born in Shiraz, Iran in 1950. She speaks Persian, French, and English. She has many connections in Chicago to several radical movements and organizations. She's also the one who was instrumental in hiring Communist Van Jones to work for the White House as Green Energy CZAR. She has major influence over ALL of Obama's presidential decisions. Consider her the Dick Cheney of the Obama administration.
