The government rationing of healthcare is inevitable. (Read the previous blog topic "What Is Comparative Effectiveness?" Rationing IS unavoidable under the present proposed healthcare plan. To make matters worse, President Obama has two healthcare advisers who support the ideas of euthanasia. Ezekiel Emanuel (previously mentioned) and Cass Sustein.
A Closer Look At Mr. Sustein
In the January 2004 Columbia Law Review, Sustein is quoted as follows "I urge that the government should indeed focus on life-years rather than lives. A program that saves young people produces more welfare that one that saves old people."
In addition he states "If a program would prevent fifty [50] deaths of people who are twenty [20], should it be treated the same way as a program that would prevent fifty [50] deaths of people who are seventy [70]?... Other things being equal, a program that protects young people seems far better than one that protects old people, because it delivers greater benefits."
In other words, if you're not deemed to be contributing enough to society, then you are not worthy of that bypass surgery or the hip replacement! Likewise, if you are obese, then forget that defibrillator operation! In any of these cases, government agencies determine that you are not worthy of treatment.
What's Behind All This?
The proposed healthcare program introduces entitlements. Entitlements introduce more costs! The way to reduce costs is to ration healthcare. Obviously old people generally require more treatment that younger ones. If you reduce treatments for older people, you can add more younger people to the mix. Senior citizens will pay the brunt of these entitlements.
What About Power?
This IS exactly about power! You are putting your life in the hands of government bureaucrats! This is NOT an individual choice. It becomes a government choice. Do not relinquish this power to ANY government program.
Money Too
Besides power, this is also about MONEY! Lots of money. Billions of dollars of money. Several companies will benefit financially by this new legislation. Besides, we cannot afford to pay for this with our current deficits!
The Real Danger
Money and power corrupt. Don't let yourself be tricked into believing that the quality of healthcare will improve. Canada and the United Kingdom have numerous examples of horrific stories of how people die waiting for treatment because of government rationing! Don't be fooled Americans!
